K Art Gallery is unique — it is one of the only Native American-owned commercial art galleries with a primary and robust focus on the works of established and emerging Native American, First Nations and Indigenous contemporary artists.
The gallery has presented numerous successful solo and group exhibitions since its debut in 2020, and has published two well-received exhibition catalogues. K Art participates in many selective art fairs and has placed works of its artists in the permanent collections of internationally renowned museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery, the Buffalo AKG (formerly the Albright Knox) and others.
K Art’s mission is to elevate the work of Indigenous contemporary artists so that overlooked artists and their narratives receive the attention they deserve. It executes on that mission by working with established and emerging Indigenous contemporary artists to create exhibitions that explore, illuminate and challenge the Indigenous experience from both contemporary and historical perspectives.
K Art Gallery is owned by Dave Kimelberg, an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians (Bear clan). Dave returned to the Seneca territories over a decade ago to serve the Seneca Nation in various capacities. He was the founding CEO of Seneca Holdings, the economic development arm of the Seneca Nation, where he spent 7 years leading it from an early-stage concept to a national group of operating and investment companies for the benefit of the Seneca Nation and its community. He also started the first FM radio station on Seneca Nation territory.
Dave’s great uncle was President of the Seneca Nation of Indians in the 1950s. His mother was an art teacher, and a founding teacher in the Head Start program on Seneca territory. His brother was a Seneca contemporary artist and worked for the Seneca Nation for many years. Dave has been a collector and advocate of Indigenous contemporary art for decades. He continually advocates for Indigenous policies and issues with a focus on economic and community development, and is a strong supporter of the arts as a catalyst for community development.
Dave is a graduate of Northeastern University and Cornell Law School.
